TMA FIGHTS MEDICAID CUTS FOR PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY
TMA President Austin King, MD, joined two other leaders of Texas medicine in opposing proposed Texas Medicaid rate cuts for cataract, strabismus, and vitrectomy surgery in the pediatric population. Dr. King — along with Texas Ophthalmological Association President Sidney K. Gicheru, MD, and Texas Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus President David Stager Sr., MD — argued that preserving current rates would help protect children’s access to care and ensure comprehensive treatment. They also pointed out the fallacy of relying on Medicare relative value units in setting rates for services for children.
