ABILENE PHYSICIANS, BLUE CROSS EXPLORE VIRTUAL MEDICAL COMMUNITY SAVINGS POSSIBILITIES
TMA Trustee Austin King, MD, and I met with other Abilene physicians and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas officials to flesh out ideas for a pilot “virtual medical community” in that West Texas town. Plans call for participating physicians — in solo practice or small groups — to implement and use an electronic health record to better coordinate care for patients with chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and depression. Savings and costs would be shared. If it’s successful, TMA will work to bring this collaboration model to physicians in other parts of Texas.
