UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH FORUM EDUCATES LEGISLATIVE STAFF ON PUBLIC HEALTH AND ECONOMY
Dozens of legislative staff and capitol reporters took in the Texas Public Health Coalition’s first University of Health forum, which focused on the economic value local public health infrastructure provides to legislative districts. Eduardo Sanchez, MD, chief medical officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) gave a presentation, “A Healthy Texas Is a Wealthy Texas.” The forums are targeted at legislative staff on key public health priorities. Subsequent University of Health forums will focus on immunizations, obesity, and cancer and tobacco. TMA founded the Texas Public Health Coalition, a group of more than 20 organizations dedicated to advancing core public health principles at the state and community levels.
